INTRODUCTION
Ocean weather ships were used to record weather data and to aid in aircraft navigation. The ICAO established a global network of weather ships in 1948. Since the 1970s these ships became obsolete by cheaper weather buoys and Polarfront, the last dedicated weather ship, was removed in 2010. With these ships, you will be able to traverse the Atlantic Ocean vintage style and have at least a bit of assurance now and then when you pass one of the stations.
FEATURES
For navigational purposes I have outfitted these ships with an NDB of 50NM range. It ain't much but it's honest work. The frequencies aren't historical, a list of which frequency belongs to which ship can be found below. Each ship is also equipped with a rotating beacon light, so they should be seen more easily in the dark. The ships are stationary and have a windsock to show you the current windyness.
DEPENDENCY
I wanted to keep dependencies on other mods to a minimum (ideally none at all) but the stock ships are ugly, so in order to see the ship, you should download the fantastic "Moving Boats 3D Model Library" by user superspud: https://flightsim.to/file/27908/moving-boats-3d-model-library
I hope you like this addition, I might do the Pacific stations as well.
INSTALLATION
Drag & Drop the package folder into your community folder but read the following note of...
CAUTION
If you don't get the NDB signal into your ADF receiver, this might be because you have navigraph installed. This was the case for me and caused some headaches but fear not!
In this case, open your content.xml file (for MSFS Steam Edition, copy this address in your explorer: %appdata%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\content.xml) and create a new entry with the package folder name as "Package name".
To test whether the ships and NDB are visible, type one of the identifiers (4YA for example) into the search bar in the world screen in MSFS and choose this point or a point near it as departure.
