My first ever Scenery for MSFS, thanks to @Jonahex111 for giving us the Earth2MSFS tool and @Thalixte for the GEDOT Blender add-in and E2MSFS fix, plus special mention to @OldGamesItalia for the great YouTube tuts.
So here's Maastricht, the oldest city of the Netherlands and my hometown. I had to create this as I don't live in the Netherlands anymore and I love virtually visiting the city. For anyone interested in getting to know more about one of the most "non-Dutch" Dutch cities, please refer to Wiki here.
For now this is version 1, which includes:
- The whole area of Maastricht in Photogammetry available from Google right now (Copyright applies)
- Reduced LOD to a single level to keep the size small, therefore it is only LOD18.
- Detail should be perfect for VFR flights at 1000ft+ AGL (which you should be doing as a proper VFR pilot)
- All autogen removed (buildings and vegetation)
- Adjusted colours with GIMP (and BIMP), to circumvent the E2MSFS colour adjustment not working for every tile
Known issues are:
- Water is just normal terrain
- Some blending issues of the terrain mesh with the stock scenery
- Not every area covered with night lighting due to lowering stock scenery
- Not enough detail to fly low, let alone land, with Helis
- Sadly not optimised with reduced mesh complexity and baked textures (have yet to find a way that's reasonable timewise)
Sidenote: I believe @Thalixte is working on a new version of the Blender add-in to automatically fix some issues, so I will update when that comes around. For now I'll work on a v2 which will include LODs 17, 18 and 19, a stab at better night lighting, plus updated colour adjustments.
A tribute to Maastricht.
