United States Drag and Drop
Chicago Midway airport is the second largest airport serving the Chicago area, in the state of illinois, USA. Originally named Chicago Air Park, it was originally built in 1923. In July 1949, the airport was renamed after the battle of Midway.
Midway airport covers one square mile ( one whole city block) and has five runways. Midway is tightly surrounded by buildings and other mainly residential development, so the landing thresholds of the runways are displaced to provide obstacle clearance. The FAA and the airlines ensure safety by adhering to calculated load limits and various weather minimums. Because of the displaced landing thresholds, the runways have shorter distances available for landings than for takeoffs. 13C/31C, the longest runway, only has an available landing distance of 6,059 feet (1,847 m) in the southeast direction, and 5,826 feet (1,776 m) to the northwest.
It is a big midwestern hub for Southwest Airlines.
===============================================================
Default MSFS 2020 only showed this as a very drab, generic airport, even though this is the second busiest airport in Chicago, and is great fun to fly out of and land into, because it is locked into residential areas on all 4 sides. It requires a precision approach, and also approach from the east or northeast  can take you over the city of Chicago's beautiful downtown.
I have used the SDK to edit the default airport and really bring it to life. Even though i do not know how to make 3D buildings in blender yet, I have used the default SDK buildings and scenery tools to recreate all the hangars and buildings of Midway airport.
===============================================================
Main features :
1. Properly named and numbered Terminals and Gates. Pilots, tarmac workers at various locations working around the airport add to a sense of incredible realism.
2. Hand created aprons / taxiways, runway textures, with textures specially matched to actual photographs of the airport. new , properly scaled control tower and also, the boundary wall around the airport has been added in.
3. The roads around the airport and the city blocks have also added , moving buses and cars, and lighting to re-create what it feels like to come in to land and to take off from this airport , locked in between dense city blocks.
4. New night lighting for all terminal amd apron buildings; atmospheric and true to real life.
5. Added accurate night lighting for taxiway edges and paths / centerlines .
6. All taxiways have their original names, as in real life.
7. All the buildings , parking areas that are a part of the airport or around the periphery are recreated with incredible, time-staking detail, with working street lamps, parking areas, parking gates, airport vehicles, airport service roads, trees, cars, boundary fences/ walls/ gates.
8. AIRPORT RUNWAY DIAGRAM for KMDW included, so you can Taxi around the airport more easily.

9.  Incredibly small file size, since this uses all stock, default  SDK library objects for the redesign of KMDW.  (No new 3d objects that take up precious HDD space)

Limitations :

1.The exact building designs are not included, as i do not yet know how to use blender to make custom 3d buildings. But very similar looking buildings for the most part.  All buildings are stock buildings from the SDK scenery library

2.The actual airlines that fly out of Midway Airport cannot be shown yet ( Mainly southwest airlines), because i do not think MSFS2020 is set up to show actual aircraft livery yet)

3. Some taxiway assist lines direct you to the extra pavement part of the runway, rather than the Runway Threshold itself.
=======================================================================================================

INSTALLATION :
Drop the 'CHICAGO-MIDWAY' folder into your MSFS2020 Community folder. Thats it!

I spent a huge number of days and weeks on perfecting this airport as much as i could, to the quality level of the bigger studios ; and if you like it, i would greatly appreciate you donating $9 to my paypal account. If you feel that is too much, any amount will be much appreciated:

    The airport is nice modeled with default objects, but together with other scenery available in the Chicago area it's noticeable heavy in frames. Probably it needs some sort of optimization

    Are you talking about the 3 biz jets that are on the west side of the airport , parked together next to the small car park ( SIgnature Lounge area) ?

    If so, there is a weird issue in the SDK, where it pulls in objects and scenery , even from 3rd party add-ons, that can be added in to a project. But if you, do not have those same 3rd party add-ons as i havem you wont be able to see some objects. I will have to go back and put in stock Asobo bizjets, if they are available to put in.

    yee the bizjets are not there i know one pack with static planes that are working but all downloanders must download this pack but the pack is great so you can use it if you want.
    link:http://www.jpfil.com/quebec-fs2020/collections.htm
    !!!if you want to use this all people who download version with this planes must download the collection (if they not the planes will ot shown)!!!

    and I think that the problem with planes is that are in bigger pack and no one download this pack so it can not work but I hope you will update the airport with these planes they are free to use you can use sdr pack or dave3Dpeople for even more realistic airport but if you do this the airport looks better that some payware :)) but good luck with airport
    yep and msfs will shown livery if you use some how a320 with cocpit that will look like it is your plane but idk how to use this so contact the person who made oslo for msfs. and other way to show soutwest is to use 3D models from internet i know some

    i think this way is better but if you dont know how to use it contact person who made helsinki vantaa with static planes he uses models from same website

    Really ? I never experienced this on testing, but i will investigate this. thanks for letting me know.

    I do not know how to edit the xml. Would this be in the project folder ? And can it be edited with a text file ?
    I would love to see the actual southwest airline 737's lined up at the KMDW terminal, that will really add to the realism. I will have to investigate manipulating xml files

    "2.The actual airlines that fly out of Midway Airport cannot be shown yet ( Mainly southwest airlines), because i do not think MSFS2020 is set up to show actual aircraft livery yet) "

    Question, have you tried editing the XML to include "parkingCodes" on each parking spot such as SWA in B and C, and DAL, VOI, and POE in A?

    It won't make much difference in a stock setup even if you install the liveries megapack, but my theory is that adding parkingCodes to liveries may result in better AI/flightaware parking at the airport. I've not yet confirmed if this is properly implemented in FS2020.

    Which xml are you talking about ? The scenery package as made in the SDK does not seem to have an xml file with parking codes.

    Maybe under MyFSProjects\PackageDefinitions the xml files there. I never did a deep dive into this but I saw some forum posters mention things that could only be edited there, among them COM frequencies for example. I found in one of the schema files for MSFS there's parkingCodes under taxiwayparking objects.

    I went into the SDK also, but cannot find where to place and specify certain airlines for certain parking codes

    That's the problem, the SDK doesn't document everything that is supported. I may experiment with this myself when I have some spare time (but that is a rare thing) and see if I can define a parkingCode and get AI to park there.

    Here's a link about editing the XML file, anyway: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/creation-of-a-new-airport-with-frequencies-and-ils.450620/#post-868326

    That's so nice of you. I didn't know it was yours. Any reason why you're giving it back as freeware?

    This is Version 1.5 I had taken the package off and reposted, so ti defaulted as version 1 ; but it is the same Version 1.5

    I'm still wondering the same thing as the two comments about confusion. I had downloaded version 1.5 too. So why is this V1.0 here now?

    was taken off here and reposted back, but should have been version 1.5 ( not version 1.). so there is no difference if you already uploaded version 1.5

    This tower looks like the one of EHAM, Schiphol Amsterdam.
    The real tower of KDMW looks much different.

    I used stock control towers available in the SDK to create this one. Yes, it is not the same as KMDW , because i could not find anything in the SDK object library similar to the KMDW control tower . Read the readme file carefully. I do mention this in there ( that i did not create any new 3D buildings, just used what i had available in the SDK to make KMDW more realisitic than the generic version)

    Yes, this is confusing indeed. What happened to your primary Midway upload ?
    I had downloaded version 1.5 - what is the difference to this new upload ?

    no difference.
