** added 2021.03.13 **

a new very well done video by badGamr has been posted on Youtube

It's based on the latest version (as of today) and covers most of the features, a must see if you need some help or are starting with the tool or have some questions about it

Many thanks badGamr !

** added 2020.10.13 **
little video to get you started with the tool made by lostboii, many thanks to him

Another little addon manager. Made to match my own needs and just sharing with the community.

I tried to keep the UI very simple but it should hopefully do the job 'feature-wise'.

- lets you organize your addon freely in folder and subfolders in your folder of choice
- will create links in the community folder. There is no need to move files in and out of the folder.
- very easy to activate/deactivate groups of addons (single click)
- lets you save presets of addons
- lets you rename addons (link will be automatically updated)
- lets you add / update / remove addons

Installation :
- just extract all the files and drop them in a folder of your choice and run the EXE file

usage :
- create a folder where you will put your addons, add your addons in there instead of putting them in the community folder, you can create as many subfolder as you want to organize your files efficiently
- launch the application, in the options screen set your 'addon folder' and your 'community folder'
- just click on the checkbox to activate/deactivate addons
- rest should be fairly easy to understand (little quickstart guide should be coming soon if needed)

notes :
- if it doesn't work please try to set the application to run as admin, if it works but you still get the message at the start, just disable the message in the options screen
-i was made aware that other tools seem to do pretty much the same things but probably with some differences (have not tested them though because i learned about them after mine was released last week), anyway each has probably its own advantage and it's just free and just for fun, so you can freely decide to use mine if you find it useful.

big thanks to the guys in the AVSIM forum that helped me testing the very first versions with feedback and ideas. I will now post it here exclusively making it easier to maintain for eventual updates.

Thank you

How to install / update ?

Simply unzip all included file in the zip in a folder of your choice. For updating, repeat the same process after deleting the files that came with the previous version.

Will my settings be kept after an update ?

Yes, the settings are saved in a different folder (C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker). The presets are also stored in that folder by default but they might be in another folder if you changed their locations in the options screen (so make sure you don't delete them if you changed the location manually).

Can i save the columns order / size ?

yes, there is an option for that in the right click menu (save columns order / size). If you do that, the column order will be restored on the next restart of the tool

After launching the tool i see the icon in my taskbar but the screen does not show up, WTH ?

oops, the tool saves it's locations when closed. If you change monitor settings between 2 sessions (for example going form dual screen setup to a single screen setup) it might happen that the screen is restored outside of the boundaries of your current screen, so it will be there but you wont' see it :)

You can fix that easily by going to the configuration folder (C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker), open the ini file with notepad and remove the tree lines below :

On the next restart the app should show up correctly on your screen.

I'm getting 'can not read manifest.json file', addons do not work when moved outside of the community folder

This is unfortunately an issue some users having the MS-Store version faced. When addons are placed in the community folder they are somewhat encrypted (not exactly sure what Windows does). When you move them elsewhere, they don't work anymore. It seems to be a Windows limitation and there's not much we can do. For some users copying the addons instead of moving them fixed the issue but that doesn't seem to work for everyone. In the worst case you would need to redownload the addons having the problem and place them directly in your custom addon folder.

I have a crash when .......

please send me a private message on this site (there is a little option 'private message to bad2000' in the action menu on the main addon page) with the detailed error message that you get. I'll do my best to try to fix

Can I apply multiple presets at once ?

yes, you can do that either by using the 'presets screen' available in the toolbar menu, in that screen you can select several presets and apply them at once. You can also use the button 'apply cumulative' at the bottom of the addons list. That button will apply the selection of the presets without removing the currently selected addons.

I get invalid links if i rename / remove addons via the Windows Explorer

this is normal because if you do operations via the Windows explorer the links can not be maintained (for renaming for example there is an option directly in the tool's right click menu, if you do that inside the tool the link will be maintained by the tool). Anyway if you get invalid links you can delete them easily with the right click menu 'delete invalid links' on the right panel (they can be spotted easily because they will be with a red background), then just recreate the link for the desired addon.

Will there be a map for addons ?

Well there are now other tools now that do pretty much the same as mine and that already include maps. So my prototype with a map for which i posted some screnshots a few months ago has been pretty much been discontinued for now. Not sure if i'll work on that anymore (i really don't want to enter competition with other addons, if others are better it's very ok for me, all this is just for fun for me)

Where is the manual ?

there is none .. shame on me for sure ;) It should be fairly easy to use though and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

There are also some videos about the tool that have been popping up on Youtube, they can certainly help understanding the basics (many thanks to their authors).

Donations ?

Thank you very much about thinking about making a donation. I really appreciate that but it's ok, there's already so much stuff to pay for nowadays, just enjoy the little tool if you think it can be useful for you and don't worry about money.

How to uninstall everything / start new ?

To remove completely the application you need to remove two folders.

- the folder in which you unzipped all files

- the configuration folder that is created automatically when the tool is run for the first time and where your settings are saved (C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker)

if you do that it will be like if you had never installed the tool.

Do I really have to launch the tool 'as admin' ?

The real reply would be NO. But well, it's a bit difficult, the more precise reply is 'not anymore since v0.8' but YES if you have already used older version of the tool.

Unfortunately it was required for earlier version (because the tool was creating links that needed admin rights, now not anymore). The fact that it was required in earlier versions means that now your configuration files are saved 'as admin' and if you run the tool 'not as admin' you wouldn't be able to update them so you are pretty much forced to continue running the tool as admin. It's a bit annoying.

Feel free to contact me if you need more info and don't want to run it 'as admin' anymore because it would be as simple as recreating your configuration files without admin rights.

Why do some addons show up in red ?

The red color is just a warning (everything will work fine). It indicates that you have two (or more) addons with the same name in different folders. Those are probably duplicates that need to be checked.

Pretty empty over here.

  • Version 0.9.7778.338 April 18, 2021

sorry for the little forced update

HOTFIX : previous version from earlier today would display an error message when loading the grid view if you had 'disable file stats' in the options screen.

  • Version 0.9.7778.253 April 18, 2021

a small update mainly to fix the issue with dependencies not applied automatically when restoring a preset and a few mini changes based on requests.

    - FIX : dependencies not automatically being applied after restoring a preset

    - NEW : modellib renamer can now also check and and rename other files if you want to. (use this only if you know and understand what it does)

    - IMPROVED : added an option to not automatically remove unused dependencies (options screen)

    - IMPROVED : improved detection of when the community panel need to be refreshed (won't be triggered anymore when the content of _cvt_ folders changes)

    - MINI : added an option to colorize the first and second level of folders if you want to (options screen)

    - MINI : a new button in the toolbar let you expand the selected folder only to the first level (if already expanded it will be collapsed letting only the first level expanded)

    - MINI : a little warning has been added if you have a manifest.json file in your root addon directory

    - IMPROVED : a few other little fixes here and there, some changes in the addons loading process (not sure it will make a big difference though)

not important but, for info, the file version is now 0.9.7778.25385, last 2 digits are not shown anymore by flightsim.to site.

    Thank you

  • Version 0.9.7765.38724 April 05, 2021

    ultra tiny-mini hotfix :=)

FIXED : correction of the wrongly formatted size indication in the grid view if you had the 'file stats' option disabled. Sorry for that and thanks BrianT58 for reporting !

  • Version 0.9.7763.27934 April 03, 2021

    a little hotfix :)

IMPROVED : improved the logic for enabling/disabling dependencies.

FIXED : The dependencies were not mapped correctly into memory until the next restart of the application (would still work for the most part but some actions, like changing color, would not be in effect until the next restart).

IMPROVED : the hiding of CVT folders is now optional. If you prefer to see them (same as previous versions) just uncheck the option in the options screen (2nd tab)

NEW : Based on the request by orenghe988, added a 'addons grid view' in the 'Tools' menu at the top. This will let you search / sort / filter more easily than in the main treeview if you have multiple folder levels. Sorting by size will be more easy like this i think, i also added an 'update date' column (in the main view there is only the 'creation date'). It's also possible to export the data to Excel (right click menu).

NOTE : if you have tons of addons (some have 300+ GB) you can maybe get a little boost of performance by checking the 'disable file stats' option in the options screen. If this option is checked (means that file stats are disabled), the new 'grid view' will still show you the files count and size because that information will be recomputed when the new screen is shown (so that might take a few seconds but it will not be penalizing everytime your refresh the main views).

HELP : the right click menu option called 'Auto enable/disable used/unused dependencies' will just check if all dependencies are correctly enabled : so this option will :
    - enable a dependency if it's not enabled and at least one of its corresponding addon is already enabled
    - disable a dependency if all of its corresponding addons are not enabled

Still using it and loving it- bravo! One thing I noticed though, under Tools->Options->Additional Options, the maximum delay I can set is 20 seconds. I have it set to launch vfrmap, but it seems like 20 seconds might not be enough time, as MSFS takes some time to load on my machine. Is there a reason that the Delay maxes out at 20 seconds? Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, can't really remember why i put that limit at 20 😉, i can certainly change that and i will send you a little updated version later this evening (CET time).
This option can probably be improved a bit further. Just to be clear, today it works like this : the first program in your launch list is always launched immediately, then the next ones will be launched with the specified waiting time between them. (the idea was to make sure one program was fully loaded before the next one was started because i had some report of tools needing to be launched before or after another one)

Use this every time I fly MSFS -- thanks again for your work!

Any chance you could add a patcher for the mymaterials conflict to the ModelLib Changer feature? It's a similar fix -- rename the folder and update the layout json.

Thank you for your feedback, yes i had a request for that feature also by someone else last week. I wanted to work on it this weekend but i couln't find the time. I will try to spend some time on it next week.

I have been using your addon linker for 2 months now and must say I love it and it works great! Today I downloaded the newest version released (0.9.7778.338). At first I just over wrote to old folder. When launched as Admin. I get the Linker icon on the windows bottom tray but no large screen. If I click on it, it shows just a white screen, no error messages! So, then I deleted the old and new folders for addon-Linker. I then extracted the newly downloaded zip file and opened that extracted folder and clicked the exe file to run as Admin. Same white screen?
    What do I do now.
I have rebooted twice, trying from the beginning with the same result.

hello, thank you for your feedback, not sure what happens there, can you maybe send a me a screenshot in a private message ? Not sure if that will help, but can you also try to open your INI file (C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker\MSFS_Addons_Linker.ini) and remove the 3 lines below (do that when the tool is closed and then relaunch it). Let me know thank you.

Thank you for this great addon, but is it possible to have one airport/scenery in two dependencies as i would like to have them in two different bush trips that cross over each other or start or finish at the same airport(like the UK bush trips(south coast, Land's end to John O'Groats and John O'Groats to Land's end).
    • bad2000
      4 day(s) ago
Thank you very much for your comment, yes it is possible to add the same addon as dependency for two or more different addons. So you should be able to set an airport as dependency for 2 different bushtrips. Let me know if that doesn't work for you.
In the current version there is a little limitation though, you can't add a dependency to an addon that is already defined as a dependency for another addon, i will try to fix that soon. Let me know if it's not clear enough of if it doesn't answer your question fully.

    • bad2000
      10 day(s) ago
you should be able to remove the dependency the same way you have added it. Just use the 'set dependency' screen and uncheck the selected dependency. Let me know if that doesnt work for you.

First of all, i think, your Manager is one of those "must have" addons for MSFS, as it makes life so much easier, if you youse lots of addons and wanna de/activate them, depending on the region you fly, as too many active addons really have an big impact on the sim.

Yesterday my sim downloaded a new update, now all (or just some) of my addons won´t work anymore.

Not sure, if it really is the reason of my current problem, but i wanna ask, just to be sure:

i found out yesterday, that the ingame content manager of MSFS does try to display some of my addons, i have managed in addon linker, and MSFS content manager seems to be able to de/activate addons.

I´ve seen an "hook symbol" right of the addons name, this hook can be activated or deactivated in MSFS. All my addons, i can see in the addon manager (= it´s not all active ones, i just see some of them) show to be "deactivated" in content manager.

I haven´t tried to put addons directly into the community manager folder, without using addon linker, as i have all my addons sorted via folders and subfolders, addon linker is a great help to keep the overview for me.

    So, my question is:
    * do you guys know this all?
    * is there a new problem with the current MSFS version, not allowing tools like addon linker anymore?
    * Do all your addons still work?
    * Do you have any clues, what´s about this "hook" feature in content manager?

Maybe it´s just a problem on my side, i´m right at the beginning of my search for fixing my problems, so i wanted to check, if you guys have some input for me.

    Any hint is very welcome!

hello and thanks for the feedback,

unfortunately a bit difficult to know exactly what is happening on your side. For info, the 'links' can not be broken by any sim update because the links are managed by Windows. So for Windows a 'link' is seen as the real folder, so the sim will see as a real folder and it should work no matter what update is made to the sim because the sim will no know if it's a link or not. What can happen though, is that some files won't work if moved outside of your community folder because they are encrypted and work only there (but that's a different issue that some (not all) users with MSStore have been facing when they had installed some addons first in the community folder and then moving them in another folder, but that should not be your issue if your addons were working before the update, were they ?).

There is also a known issue right now with the content manager, it will show all your 'community folder' addons as 'not installed', you should not worry about that because your addons should still be working. Have you confirmed that they work when not linked and do not work when linked by going inside the sim and checking them ?

i'm not sure about the 'hook symbol', not sure i have seen that, can you send me a screenshot via private msg (i will send you one right now so you can reply there an attach your picture). Thank you

Thanks a lot for your help!
This helps me a good step further for sure.

Those mentioned "hooks" (maybe it´s not the proper english wording):
... but please forgive my drawing skills.

Thanks to your reply, i understand, that the ingame manager is a bit "special" currently and the fact, that it shows all addons "not installed" does not need to bother me. Good to know!

So this "hook" probably just means to show, what´s selected, i think.

I also tested to put some of my addons into the community folder manually, still the same behaviour as you explained, thanks again for your help!

Yesterday was my first day in the sim after maybe one or two weeks absence, so i can´t tell 100% sure the difference of "before yesterdays game update and afterwards". I also updated all my addons to it´s most recent versions, to be "state of the art" again.

So, you are totally right ofcourse, it really can´t be related in any ways to your great addon. It seems to me, that some of my addons, which also didn´t have any updates for some time, don´t work with the current MSFS version correctly.

Again ,for others who might be reading this all: it´s nothing to do with Addon Linker, dont worry guys! I just didn´t know what´s going on and needed to start my research at one point. Thanks to bad2000´s quick reply and great help, i know what to do next... just find out which addon needs to be deactivated till they get an update and i´ll be happily flying with my Addon Linker managed addons again, as i was looking for.

Thanks a lot for your help, bad2000!
      You saved my weekend.

Well, if flightsim.to would have some API's to download the mods, that would basically be it!

Anyway, thank you again, it's imperative to have something like this to be able to keep you head clear and organized, and the feature of not having every mod in the community folder to increase load time is by far the best idea!

Does anybody know if it works with VPilot Model Matching? So if i link the liveries in my community folder, does vpilot recognize them as liveries? I get more and more "Model not found" since I used the Addon Linker. Thanks for the help, great product never the less!
    • bad2000
      14 day(s) ago
Hello, thank you for you feedback. I'm not a user of vPilot MM so i don't exactly know how it works but it should be ok because, for Windows, a link is the same as the real folder.
You get 'model not found' when linked, but it's ok if you move it in the community folder ? I have read also that are some problem with AI liveries since the last patch but not sure if that is related to your problem not knowing exactly what vPilot MM does. Let me know please if you make some progress on this or if you need more help for the technical part (msg me directly)
