NOTE! Microsoft/Asobo added their own version of this bridge in World Update 2, but I like mine a little better. Unfortunately, you must delete the USA - POINTS OF INTEREST package from the Content Manager for my mod to work. This is because I can't figure out how to exclude their model in favor of my own, and you can't simply disable their package. Hopefully this will change in the future.
If you have not installed World Update 2, you should continue using v1.1 of this mod.
Located near Fayetteville, WV, the New River Gorge Bridge was the longest and highest single-span arch bridge in the world when it opened in 1977. While those records have since been surpassed, the majesty of this iconic structure makes Mountaineer hearts beat with pride. An international BASE jumping Mecca of sorts, the bridge is closed to vehicles the third Saturday of October each year for Bridge Day, when daredevils plummet to the New River 870 feet below.
West Virginia born and raised, this had to be the first piece of scenery I attempted for Flight Simulator. I created the bridge model by hand using SketchUp and Blender.
You can fly under the bridge, but you have to go very low (below the lowest support buttresses on the hillsides) or the sim will still think you hit something.
Version 1.1: Removed the artifacts from the satellite photo (misaligned road and baked-in bridge shadow on hillside).
Version 1.2: Updated elevation for World Update 2 and added POI marker.

If you get the urge to build another landmark, Green Bank man, it even has an airport on site. I have to say though, it would be a challenge, those telescopes look complicated to model.
