When you load a custom departure (i.e not an airport) it will start you on the ground and cold and dark instead of on and airborne.
Works with all variants, including amphibious (which can be started either at sea or on the ground)
Also I slightly tweaked the starting weights because I was really tired of changing them to what I wanted every time, they will start you with no copilot and almost fully loaded. You can tweak these in the flight_model.cfg files, which are located in each subfolder for each variant
To install, move the folder to the community folder.
Great idea, much appreciated! Works like a charm!

I'd love to know how you achieved this so that I can apply this to all of my aircraft. I only ever start from the ground and I hate having to only start from larger airstrips or ramps with helicopter etc.

Hiya!
I did it by making a mod to overwrite the cruise.FLT file for the SWS Kodiak variants. This is a config file that sets all the parameters of the aircraft when you start "in cruise" - that is, at a custom location. Each plane should have FLT files that designate the state of the aircraft for approaches, on the apron, at the hanger (i.e. in the main menu), on the runway, etc. for different starting possibilities. You can find it by searching in the folder <Package Name>/SimObjects/Airplanes/<Airplane Name>/ for the airplane you're interested in
My new cruise profile uses the data from apron.FLT (for starting cold and dark), but also keeps the first section [SimVarForSpawningInTheAir.0] (while changing IAS to 0 obviously)
I believe this should work on any plane, might take a bit of testing to get it right. Good luck!
